Lights, reindeer and bells

Local Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge (FFVF) members hosted the Polar Express rides last Thursday and Friday. Starting at the Moline social house, a bus took riders around Imperial to see the Christmas lights. There were a few surprises on the ride, including reindeer at Randy and Margene Hayes’ house and some elves (Ron and Jeri Johnson) handing out bells. Riders returned to the social house for cookies, cocoa and Santa. FFVF member Carrie Terryberry estimated there were 110 riders on Thursday, 125 on Friday and approximately $1,000 raised. “We will be taking a break (from the event) next year and then are planning to have it every other year. We appreciate the community’s support and hope everyone enjoyed themselves,” Terryberry said. Top, the conductor (Mason Holmes) welcomes passengers aboard the Polar Express.
