Lego competition a hit with youths

One new event at Smokin’ on Broadway this year was a Lego building competition.
Sponsored by Boy Scouts Pack 199, each participant was given a pack with 100 Legos inside.
There were 33 participants in the competition this year.
“They could build whatever they wanted, and they didn’t have to use all the Legos,” coordinator Michelle Mandeville said.
The competition was for youths age five through fourth grade (2018-19 school year).
Jack and Dee Schnieder donated two bikes for one boy and one girl winner selected in a People’s Choice voting.
There were also first, second and third places for each age group. Those winners received Lego kits.
Smokin’ committee members Chris Lee donated the Legos used for building.
“We’ll definitely do it again next year,” Mandeville said. “Now that the word’s out, I think we’ll have even more.”
With the anticipation of more participants, Mandeville said any donation of Legos to use would be greatly appreciated.
Winners of the contest included:
Ages 5-6—1, Nataliia Stepanovic; 2, Levi Ambrosek; 3, Jett Patterson
Ages 7-8—1, Logan Richter; 2, Amelia Russell; 3, Bryce Mandeville
Ages 9-10—1, Zariah Carman; 2, Elizabeth Hanna; 3, Gavin Hiykel
Peoples Choice (bike winners)—Tatum May, Elizabeth Hanna
