Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal free concert set for Imperial

Imperial Community Foundation Fund (ICFF) committee members continue a quest to expand culture in Imperial by sponsoring a fourth free concert next Friday, Feb. 17.
Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal will tout a combination of soul, funk, rhythm and blues, resulting in a high-energy live show at the VFW Hall. Front doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Free-will donations will help defray costs and encourage more entertainment opportunities.
Tyler Pribbeno, ICFF coordinator for the event, expressed excitement that the distinguished performers chose Imperial for a stop on their tour, especially considering they’ll be touring in Europe in a couple weeks.
Performing in Denver, Colo., the night before and North Platte the night after, they chose to think outside the box and go for an experience in western Nebraska, Hoyer said.
Hoyer connected with former resident, Andy Norman, who coordinates the Good Living Tour through Hear Nebraska which has brought Nebraska talent to Imperial twice. He’s also friends with the Kris Lager Band who gave Imperial a thumbs up for a fun crowd.
Hoyer formed Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal in 2012 in Lincoln. The award-winning five-piece band includes accomplished musicians, according to Hoyer. Joining Hoyer (keyboards/vocals) are Mike Dee (sax), James Fleege (bass), Benjamin Kushner (guitar) and Larell Ware (drums).
Inspired by the sounds of Stax, Motown, Muscle Shoals, New Orleans, Philly and San Francisco, the band continuously crosses musical boundaries both in style and era, and joins forces each show with a common goal--to have the crowd dancing so much they forget even their smallest troubles.
The band completed several national tours in 2015 and 2016, taking them from coast to coast. They performed 150 shows in 32 states each year, including opening for George Clinton, Charles Bradley, Booker T Jones and Muscle Shoals Revue.
