IVFD responds to multiple, small fires

The Imperial Volunteer Fire Department (IVFD) was kept busy the past week.
On June 17 at 6:30 a.m., IVFD was called to a small ditch fire east of Imperial.
“It was very small,” IVFD Chief Doug Mitchell said. “By the time we got out there the driver who called it in had it almost out.”
A ditch fire south of old Highway 6, east of Imperial, was called in at 9:39 a.m. last Thursday.
That fire burned about 30 acres and was located on Marty Fanning’s ground east of Imperial along old Highway 6.
“Marty called us back later that day after it sparked back up again,” Mitchell said.
Friday brought in two calls, both near Lamar at mile marker 17 and mile marker 21.
“Those were both small, too,” Mitchell said. “We were in and out in an hour-and-a-half.”
With high winds and low moisture, Mitchell urges Chase County residents to be careful when throwing out cigarettes or any other potential fire starters.
