It’s gonna get noisy—fireworks sales start next week

It’s not far off—the Fourth of July is just around the corner and that means fireworks.
State statute allows the sale of fireworks from June 24 through July 4.
There is also an ordinance in Imperial that regulates the sale/discharging of fireworks in the city limits.
Discharging of fireworks in Imperial is allowed between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. from June 24 through July 3.
On the July 4 holiday itself, fireworks can be shot off in the city limits until 11:59 p.m.
Police Chief Ryan Wisnieski encourages residents to be mindful and respectful of neighbors. Violation of the city ordinance and time limits can result in a citation.
Fire Chief Doug Mitchell is breathing easier this year as nearly five inches of rain fell in Imperial the past week.
However, Mitchell still emphasizes fireworks safety. While the wheat is still green in most places, a lot can change in a couple of weeks, he noted.
Nebraska Game and Parks officials remind residents that shooting fireworks is allowed in only a few of the state parks.
Enders Lake and Rock Creek Recreation Areas are not among them, said Supt. Beau Licking.
Fireworks show
Imperial will again host a fireworks show on Wednesday, July 3, at the Chase County Fairgrounds, said Mitchell.
The show will start about 9 p.m. A rain date of July 4 is set.
Members of the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department will coordinate and conduct the fireworks show. City funds purchase the fireworks.
