A couple poles along Broadway are already decorated for a new contest sponsored by the city of Imperial. Interest high in city’s light pole decorating contest

Decorators can win $250 first place prize

Just a few light poles remain for those still interested in taking part in a new decorating contest sponsored by the city of Imperial.
After a suggestion from a city resident, Community Development Director Jason Tuller organized the city-sponsored contest that will decorate 36 light poles along Broadway Street.
As of Tuesday, 27 of those light poles have been “claimed” for decorating, Tuller said.
“I’ve been really happy with the response,” Tuller said.
The designated poles have a number facing Broadway and are located between the 300 and 1200 blocks along Imperial’s main street.
Decorators have a first come, first served choice on the remaining poles they want to decorate, he said.
Decorating should follow a fall/autumn theme, he said, but not Halloween. Items such as hay bales, scarecrows, cornstalks, pumpkins and other fall decor are welcome, he said.
Decorating should be completed by next Friday, Oct. 11, and judging will take place later in the month.
The first place winner will receive $250 in cash, given by an anonymous donor, Tuller said.
Anyone can enter the new contest—individuals, businesses and organizations, he said.
There were still nine poles available for the contest on Tuesday afternoon. Anyone interested should contact Tuller by phone at 308-882-4368, or by email at jasont@imperial-ne.com.
