Imperial Bible Church sends several volunteers to Dominican Republic

Imperial Bible Church (IBC) has been sending volunteers to the Dominican Republic to help with building and other projects for over a decade.
Pastor Robby Clay of IBC said the organization Ninos de la Luz, or Children of the Light, was founded in Venezuela in 1994 and spread the ministry to the Dominican Republic. The newest ministry opened in South Sudan in 2017.
Clay said the founder, director and missionary among the boys in the Dominican Republic is Jon Haslett and his wife, Shannon.
They manage the missionary compound just outside of Cabarete, Dominican Republic called La Baliza Ranch.
Clay said they are going to be putting in a concrete sidewalk around the complex and working on awnings for the buildings, among other things.
The group of volunteers took dish towels, pots and pans, cutlery, skateboard helmets, a dehydrator, sewing machine, skill saws and grinders, clothing and 15 handmade quilts from some of the women in the church, said Clay.
“The ministry is focused on street kids, boys who are homeless and without family to care for them,” Clay said.
The ranch provides long-term care and housing by giving them an education, responsibilities, discipleship, hope and love to help them get back into society, Clay stated.
Clay and six other church volunteers drove to Denver last Saturday to fly to Florida and then on to Puerta Plata, Dominican Republican. From there, they traveled to the ranch.
Sam, Pat and Ali McNair were also part of the group, but they left earlier in the week and were already there, Clay said.
The church group will be gone until Monday.
