Hospital receives baby welcome kits

The Chase County Community Hospital received newborn welcome packs last week from members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial.
Members of Zion are part of a chapter of Missouri Synod Lutheran churches in southwest Nebraska reaching from Curtis to Imperial.
The churches in their chapter have been collecting newborn baby items such as onesies, diapers, lotion and many other necessities.
Zion member Mary Fortkamp said all the items they collected had to be new; nothing was used.
Members put some of everything into welcome packs for the hospital to give out to new moms at the staff’s discretion.
“Some moms don’t have a lot,” Fortkamp said.
“There are some bible verses and contact information in there, too. If they’re in trouble or need any extra help they can contact us,” she added.
“It’s just our way of saying, ‘Yay, you had a baby! Here’s some extra help,’” she said.
