Hospital photo contest adds new division

Chase County Hospital Foundation is sponsoring its ninth annual photo contest for amateur photographers.
New for this year will be the first annual photo contest for professional photographers.
“We felt we were leaving out a whole sector of individuals who might also like to participate in the photo contest,” said Deb Hrcka, Assistant Executive Director for the Chase County Hospital Foundation.
Professional photographers will have their own division with slightly different guidelines than the amateur entries.
The title of this year’s professional photo contest is “Chase County Creativity.”
“They will be judged the same way as entries in the amateur division,” Hrcka said.
The professional division is for anyone who receives 50 percent or more of their annual income from their photography.
Professional photographers will be given a little more license in the photo entries by using their own kind of style or creativity, as long as the photos are taken in Nebraska.
Criteria for the professional photos will be visual appeal, composition, originality and creativity, Hrcka said.
In tthe professional and amateur divisions, the subject matter can be agriculture, wildlife, landmarks, architecture, landscapes or scenery.
Professional entries can only submit one photo per category. There must be two photos of each entry, one with their logo or personal identifier and one without.
The overall grand champion will receive $100, overall reserve champion, $75 and third place winners will receive $50.
Amateur contest
The amateur photo contest is titled “Images of Nebraska.”
Amateur photographers can enter more than one photo in any given category and division as long as each one is different.
The divisions are Nebraska, Chase County, Vintage photos (over 40 years old) and youth (12 and under).
