Hospital, dairy, valuations rank as top 2018 stories
Some familiar local issues found their way into the top rankings of stories from 2018 as prioritized by 10 members of The Imperial Republican newspaper staff.
The future of Chase County Community Hospital facilities was ranked the No. 1 story of 2018 after it claimed the No. 4 spot in 2017.
Progress was made on the hospital’s efforts to expand and update their facilities now located on West 12th Street in Imperial. But estimated cost of a new facility wasn’t good news to hospital board members.
After deciding in January to seek a bond issue for a new facility, hospital board members backed off that plan when cost estimates nearing $30 million were received in July, causing concern with the effect on hospital district taxpayers.
The board’s latest proposal is to add on to the current clinic facility in Imperial and eventually raze the hospital structure, saving an estimated $4.6 million.
