Hospital, clinic respond to active shooter drill

Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) and Clinic performed an annual drill Oct. 23 where the scenario involved an active shooter on site.
CCCH has an Emergency Preparedness Group responsible for the implementing and enactment of a mass casualty event bringing multiple entities into play, said Jaime Hiett, specialty clinic coordinator.
The group consists of Hiett, who acted as incident commander; Dustin Harris, CCCH IT manager acting as public information officer for the drill; Barry Marshall, Roseanna Vapenik, Brett Harmon and Josh Burke.
Other sectors of the county, involved were the Imperial Police Department and Chase County Sheriff’s Office, Imperial Volunteer Fire Department, EMS and Duane Dreiling, Chase County Emergency Manager.
Dr. Lawrence Davis, head trauma coordinator for the University of Colorado Health in Greeley, created the scenario and was present during the drill to evaluate and review the results of the event, Hiett said.
Also on scene to observe and evaluate was Dari Olsen, head of safety at Community Hospital in McCook.
The “shooter” was played by Justin Mueller, who entered the CCCH business/administration office, then the CEO office during a mock meeting.
