Hospital CFO Cyboron named temporary CEO

    Members of the Chase County Community Hospital board appointed Chief Financial Officer Abby Cyboron as the hospital’s temporary chief executive officer during a special meeting Tuesday morning.
    Her appointment came on the heels of the termination of CEO Steve Lewis Friday.
    More than 15 hospital employees attended the meeting. During a public comment period to open the meeting, several employees expressed frustration with the lack of communication of the board’s action with employees.
    Kara Horton told the board a lot of employees heard about the termination from members of the public Saturday or at church on Sunday. She said it was unfortunate there was no internal communication with employees.
    Board Chair John Burke said the board had “no comment” on the termination.
    Lewis said this week he was disappointed to see his tenure end in this manner. Lewis became CEO in July 2014.
    He said the hospital has really good people who have a passion for keeping the hospital going. He added it’s been a pleasure to work with them.
    Lewis said he leaves with the unfinished goal of securing a new facility for the hospital.
    Chase County voters defeated a $20.5 million bond for a new hospital facility in May by a vote of 984 opposed compared to 704 in favor.
