Hospital board issues statement on CEO dismissal

The Chase County Community Hospital board issued the following statement on the dismissal of CEO Steve Lewis after their Oct. 17 meeting.
“The board has determined that the hospital is in need of new leadership to maximize the potential of the hospital in our community.
“As a result, the board decided to terminate Mr. Lewis’ employment agreement without cause.
“The board wished to thank Mr. Lewis for his service to the hospital and wishes him the best in his future.”
Chief financial officer Abby Cyboron has been appointed by the board to serve as the interim CEO.
Board members indicated they want to take the next several months to evaluate the needs of the hospital and consider all options in the appointment of a new CEO.
They indicated they are committed to providing the best medical services for Chase County, including the selection of a new CEO to lead the hospital into the future.
The motion during the Oct. 17 meeting was to terminate the employment contract between Lewis and the hospital. The motion also included the option of a resignation agreement that could be executed by Lewis within 21 days.
Lewis said he does not intend to sign the agreement. His employment agreement already contained severance provisions.
