Heidi Anderson has been chosen as TeamMate of the Month for September.
Anderson has been a mentor for Olivia, a seventh grader, for five years.
Anderson and Olivia enjoy gabbing, and when time allows, doing crafts, she said.
Due to a limited amount of time, the pair has developed their own form of “Speed Uno” so that they can get more games in.
Anderson decided to become a mentor because it sounded like something she needed to do. She wanted to volunteer to help a child in the community.
Anderson said being a mentor gets her into the school every week, where she enjoys seeing the students.
She is able to help talk through the challenges her mentee faces with everyday life and helps by suggesting ways to cope.
When not with Olivia, Anderson is busy working from home helping with her family’s many businesses—Anderson Fencing & Seamless Gutters, Five Star Tree Service, Five Star Metal and Five Star Hay.
In her spare time Anderson loves to golf and travel.
She is married to Jason and they have three children—Kade, 14; Karlie, 12; and Zak, 10.
Anderson said TeamMates is a great program and would encourage anyone who isn’t a mentor to apply, especially men. Boys are waiting to be matched with great men who can be their mentors, she said.
