Facebook group on county history keeps growing

Calling it “just a good ol’ memory site,” Charley Colton is a bit shocked with response to a Facebook group he started just two weeks ago.
The president of the Chase County Historical Society created the group site “Remember When in Chase County” on Jan. 3, and as of Tuesday morning, it already had 1,070 members.
What began with a few pictures Colton posted from his home northwest of Imperial has grown into “a perpetual all-class reunion,” Colton said.
He said there are now members on both coasts and hundreds in between. Early this week there were nearly 200 posts and more than 10,000 “likes.”
“I’ve been truly shocked with the response,” he said Monday.
It’s already grown to where people are putting up their own pictures from years gone by, most of which are yielding likes and comments from others with ties to the county.
The idea of a Chase County “remember when” site has been on his mind awhile, Colton said.
He noted that Dundy County, the city of McCook and his hometown of Flagstaff, Arizona all have similar groups. He’s a member of all of them.
