Enders Lake up four feet from last year

Everything is going pretty smooth at Enders Lake Recreation Area this year, according to Beau Licking, superintendant at both the Enders and Rock Creek Recreation Areas.
He’s preparing for a big influx of visitors next week for the July 4 long holiday weekend.
“The lake’s come up a little bit with all the rain we’ve had,” Licking said, “Roughly compared to last fall we’re up about four feet.”
Also due to all the rain, Licking and his crew have been spending a lot of their time filling washouts and paving roads.
“We’re working on trying to install a hike/bike/equestrian trail this year,” he said, “but between mowing and filling washouts it’s been a little hard.”
An upgrade at the lake this summer is a new boat dock at the No Name boat launching area, Licking said.
Also new is the price of camping fees, which increased this spring.
Primitive camping is $10 a night and electrical fees are $30 a night. All campers must register within an hour of arriving or pay a $5 late fee.
“And of course every vehicle that enters the state parks is required to have a park entry permit,” Licking said.
Shooting fireworks is allowed at a few state parks in Nebraska, but Enders and Rock Creek are not on that list, he reminds the public.
There are no other fire restrictions in place besides fireworks, but Licking said all campfires need some type of controlled container like a fire ring.
“Either use the ones at camping sites or bring one from home for beach campfires,” he said. “We’re trying to have a ring provided at every electrical hookup site.”
Licking urges campers to follow the one camper per electrical hookup rule.
