Effect of online sales tax uncertain to city officials

City’s fourth quarter sales tax tops $103,000

For the final quarter of 2018, Imperial took in $103,298.30 in city sales tax receipts.
That figure is nearly the same as the third quarter receipts.
As legislation moves along in the Nebraska Legislature that will require collection of sales tax from online vendors, city officials aren’t sure how that may affect local receipts.
Jason Tuller, the city’s Community Development Director, said it looks like the bill will pass easily and be implemented quickly.
“I don’t think it will hit our collections in the first quarter of this year,” he said, although information he’s seen indicates that some companies like Amazon are collecting the tax already.
