Early Chase County Fair events start this Sunday

Fried food, barn animals, concerts, fast rides and bingo all have one thing in common—the Chase County Fair. The long-awaited event officially starts this Sunday and will conclude Sunday, Aug. 20.
    The majority of the initial events are focused on youths, but will continue to build throughout the week with various activities for both the young and old.
    The first official event is the 4-H Horse Show, Sunday at 8 a.m. in the Grandstand Arena.
    Monday will kick off with a dog show in the Open Air Pavilion starting at 8 a.m. followed by the animal show starting at 10 a.m. The rabbit show will begin at 11 a.m. in the Show Barn Area followed by the poultry show at 12 noon.
    Barrel race exhibitions located in the Grandstand Arena start up at 5:30 p.m. giving onlookers and participants a small break after the morning events. Barrel races first run will start at 7 p.m.
    Extension Agent Debbie Kuenning reports the following number of youths registered for the horse and livestock shows.
Horse—24 exhibitors
Poultry—15 exhibitors, eight Clover Kids
Rabbit—seven exhibitors, two Clover Kids
Dog—nine exhibitors, two Clover Kids
Cat—one exhibitor, one Clover Kid
Swine—38 exhibitors, three Clover Kids
Sheep—24 exhibitors, two Clover Kids
Goat—four exhibitors, three Clover Kids
Beef—41 exhibitors, nine Clover Kids
Other fair events
    Tuesday’s events will start with 4-H/FFA Open Class Exhibits from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Weigh in for market swine is from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with sheep and goat weigh in at 10 a.m.
    Beef weigh in begins at 11 a.m.
    All 4H/FFA Exhibit Hall entry judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. Open class exhibit entry judging will start at 12:30 p.m.
    The public is invited to bid on teams at the Ranch Rodeo Calcutta located in the Grandstand Arena that starts at 4:30 p.m. The rodeo is a sanctioned WSRA event with a limit of 10 teams. Ranch bronc riding will follow with a limit of 20 riders. The rodeo will begin at 5 p.m.
