COVID-19 testing here Thursday—but need to hurry to sign up

Officials at the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) and TestNebraska.com are making final preparations for free COVID-19 testing in Imperial today (Thursday).
The testing, conducted by the Nebraska National Guard, will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Chase County Emergency Services building at 1215 Grant Street.
Local residents can still sign up for the Thursday testing, but will have to do it by Wednesday night.
SWNPHD issued a press release last Thursday afternoon about area testings this week.
As of Tuesday this week, there is no longer any limiting criteria for anyone living in most Nebraska counties to schedule a test. That’s according to the Nebraska Dept. of Health and Human Services.
Another testing site will be in Ogallala on Friday at the Keith County Old Roads Building, 1501 West 5th Street.
These free testings are open to all individuals from the nine-county health district, which includes Chase and Perkins counties. Residents in neighboring Nebraska counties can also be tested.
However, people need to complete an online survey first with TestNebraska.
Joy Trail, program manager at SWNPHD, said sign-ups for the Imperial testing started last Friday, but people can go online anytime before the morning of the testing and get signed up.
The goal is to dramatically increase the rate of COVID-19 testing to help stem its spread and determine how widespread it is in Nebraska, said Kathie Skeen, SWNPHD Emergency Planning Coordinator.
There is no cost to be tested in Imperial or Ogallala this week.
