County museum reopening on Sunday

    Another important site in Chase County is reopening this weekend.
    Charley Colton, president of the Chase County Historical Society, said the county museum in Champion will be open to the public this Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
    No Sunday programs will be scheduled for now, he said, until more is known regarding numbers of people allowed in museums.
    The museum will be open for people to walk through and look at the items on display.
    “We’ll put out some of the new items we’ve received” the past year, Colton said.
    Some of those include historic advertising items local residents have donated, he said.
    A new 75-inch TV was purchased since the museum was open last year, Colton said, and some of the historic photos owned by the museum will be scrolled on a continuous loop Sunday afternoon. The TV was purchased with donated memorial funds, he said.
    People coming to the museum will not be required to wear a mask, but they are welcome to bring one of their own, he said.
    In a normal year, the museum hosts a program most Sundays from Mother’s Day to late August.
    Due to COVID-19, all of the scheduled programs this summer were put on hold, Colton said.
