Community invited to chili cook off

Imperial’s Chamber of Commerce invites all to the sixth annual chili cook off contest March 9.
“We want everybody to come out and have a good time,” said Jack Schnieder a member of Chamber and contest coordinator.
This year’s cook off will be at the Imperial city gym. Set up time for contestants will start at 5 p.m.
Advance registration would be greatly appreciated, but “We will take anyone until competition time,” said Schnieder.
There are  four official judges who will determine the overall winners. Judging will commence at 5:30 p.m. and the public tasting at 6 p.m.
Not only will a first, second and third be determined, but a people’s choice winner will also be awarded.
The top three winners will receive chamber bucks, and people’s choice an apron.
Over the past six years, the competition has increased in numbers. There were 15 competitors at last year’s event.
“It is well attended, but we would like to see more people come out. By the end of the night, all of the chili is usually gone,” said Schnieder
All chili will be judged on color, aroma, texture, flavor, heat and, in case a tie would occur, presentation.
For more information or to register contact Schnieder at 308-882-4363.
