Commissioners discuss annual, six-year road plans

Roads and repairs were high on the list of concerns at the March 10 Chase County Commissioners’ meeting.

Joshua Shaich with Engineering International, business of Chase County Highway Superintendent Jeff Tidyman, presented the commissioners with proposed one-and six-year road plans.

Three washouts in the eastern half of the county are causing concern. Shaich said he has a bid of $17,000 for the dirt work associated with the  three projects.

On top of that, Shaich said one washout would need 800 cubic feet of dirt to fill it in and another 500 cubic feet of dirt.

The Wauneta dam is also on the six-year list, but the commissioners are hopeful FEMA funds can be used for the project and are willing to wait to see if those funds can be secured. Preliminary plans are for a box culvert under the dam.

Additional items on the six-year plan are mostly armor coating and resealing, including the Champion spur heading west out of Champion.

Commissioner Jacci Brown said with so many highs and lows in the pavement, she’s not sure armor coating will do any good. The commissioners told Shaich to check into other options for the road.

The public hearing for the one- and six-year road plans will be April 14 at 9 a.m. MT during the commissioners’ meeting.
