Commissioner race now has four seeking office

New filings come in for NRD board, city council

Candidate filings by the March 2 deadline created more interest in at least four Chase County races.
New filings came in for the County Commissioner Dist. #1 seat, Imperial city council , the Upper Republican NRD Board and Wauneta/Palisade School Board races.
Duane Dinnel of Wauneta filed for the commissioner’s seat as a Republican. His filing last week makes three on the Republican ticket, creating a runoff at the May 12 primary. Other Republicans filing earlier were incumbent Chuck Vette of Wauneta and Terry Bilka of Enders.
The Republican top vote-getter in May will advance to the November general election to face Dave Teply, the only Democrat in the commissioner’s race.
Duncan Einspahr filed Monday for one of two Imperial city council seats up for grabs this year. Also seeking council election are incumbent Doug Gaswick and Craig Loeffler.
All three council candidates will advance to November’s election, when two will be elected.
Three new filings came in the past week for the Upper Republican NRD board seats representing subdistricts #3 and #7. Incumbents Kerry Bernhardt and Tom Terryberry did not file.
David R. Oxford Jr. of Enders and David C. Brown of Champion filed for the subdist. #3 seat which Bernhardt held, while C.J. Swanson of Imperial filed for the subdist. #7 seat (Terryberry’s seat).
Three incumbents holding the NRD subdistrict #1, #5 and #9 seats have also filed.
