City signs papers on building for fire hall

    It’s official.
The city of Imperial is now the owner of the Harchelroad Motors’ corvette building on the corner of 3rd and Broadway Streets.
Papers were signed Monday turning over the building to the city for use as a new fire hall location.
After renovations, the fire department will move three blocks south from its current location at 637 Broadway Street.
    The purchase price was $650,000.
City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland said $600,000 in bonds were sold and $50,000 from the city’s community development sales tax fund were used to cover the purchase price.
It’s the city’s intent to also pay off the bonds with sales tax funds, she added. All of the bonds have been settled.
Community development sales tax money will be used for the needed renovations, as well, she said.
Prior to Monday’s signing,  council member Chad Yaw did a walk-through of the buildings in the purchase deal, which include the main structure facing Broadway and two small buildings to the west.
Leyland noted Harchelroad Motors donated desks and other office equipment to the fire department that their business had used in the buildings.
