City council deals with property nuisances at Monday meeting

Imperial’s city council spent most of their time dealing with nuisance properties during their regular meeting Monday night.
C.J. Poltack with West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) of Ogallala reviewed nuisance inspections and actions with the council.
The city contracts with WCNDD to act as their nuisance officer for properties in the city limits.
Poltack gave the council five properties in which owners have been notified they are in violation of nuisance ordinances.
The council has already voted to abate (clean up) these properties. Poltack wanted one more confirmation from the council before proceeding with action.
The five properties included 130 East 9th, 1048 Park Street, 1027 Chase Street, 842 Court Street and Lot 21, Capital Court trailer park.
Violations on the various properties include inoperable vehicles or machinery, unlicensed vehicles, trash and dead trees.
Council member Chad Yaw and Mayor Dwight Coleman said they would be in direct contact with two of the owners to see if city-directed cleanup could be avoided.
The council also discussed the impoundment of six mobile homes in the Capital Court trailer park—lots 2,6,19, 20, 22 and 30.
Because the agenda only included discussion on the issue, the council could not vote to proceed with the process.
However, a special meeting for the council to discuss the budget is set for this Monday night.
City Administrator Jo Leyland said the impoundment issue will be on the agenda for action Monday.
