City agrees to termination of solid waste agreement

Council members gave unanimous approval to an agreement on termination of the Southwest Nebraska Solid Waste Agency.
Since 1993, the city and Chase County have managed solid waste via an interlocal agreement, which no longer will be in place if both entities approve the final agreement.
The agreement approved at the council’s July 1 meeting included some changes to the document sent them by the county.
County commissioners first suggested terminating the contract more than a year ago. The village of Wauneta had withdrawn before that.
If changes suggested by the city last week meet with county commissioners’ approval, operation of the recycling center, construction and demolition (C&D) site, tree pile and transfer station will all be under city management and ownership.
