Christensen Collection Fundraiser with music by String Fling Nov. 8

“Scholars” of all ages are invited to attend an event celebrating the art collection of J. Gordon Christensen to be held at the Old High School building on Wellington Street on Saturday, Nov. 8.
Whether one knew him as Mr. C or Dr. C, or never even heard of the man who taught music in Chase County Schools for 42 years, one will be amazed at the amount of art Christensen has collected over his lifetime and gifted to the community. At least half of his 125 pieces of art will be on display for the event.
Chase County Area Arts Council (CCAAC)  is hosting the exhibition, along with music provided by String Fling, a quartet with members from Oshkosh, Chappel, Fort Collins, Colorado, and Holyoke, Colorado. The group consists of guitar, banjo, violin, standing bass and mandolin, as well as vocals, while toting “easy-listening Americana” vibes.
“One of our goals is to establish an art center in Imperial,” CCAAC president Marcia Bauerle said, “We’ve been inspired by the ArtBank gallery in McCook.”
The ArtBank’s management is working with the CCAAC in exploring plans for an Imperial-based site, with the Wellington Street school building as a possible location.
“It’s important that the community gets a chance to help us imagine the possibilities,” Bauerle added. “Donations at this event will help to establish an art center in Imperial and to manage the care and insurance for the Christensen collection.”
Light refreshments will be served at the event and drinks will be available for purchase from Broken Arrow Cellars and Hanging Horseshoe Brewery. Contact Bauerle at 308-882-8814 for more information and follow CCAAC’s Facebook page at tinyurl.com/ChaseCountyAAC.
