Chili Cook-off contest still taking entries

The 9th annual Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off will be held tonight (Thursday) at the Imperial city gym.
Set up is at 5 p.m. with judging at 5:30 p.m.
The public is invited to come taste some of southwest Nebraska’s finest chili entries beginning at 6 p.m. and cast their vote for the People’s Choice winner.
Jack Schnieder, cook-off coordinator, is requesting that chili-chefs contact him to register their entries.
“We can still take chili entries the day of the contest. It’s just a little better to have some notice so we know how many spaces to set up ahead of time,” said Schnieder.
Five judges will base their decisions on color, aroma, texture, flavor and heat.
In the case of a tie, table presentation will be the factor to tip the scales, he said.
Chamber bucks will be awarded at $50 for first place, $25 for second and $15 for third place.
A chili cook-off apron will be given to the People’s Choice  winner.
To sign up for the contest, contact Schnieder at 308-882-4363.
