The Lied Imperial Public Library has many different activities for the younger generation of children to participate in.
On Tuesday after school, the library has TASK, (Tuesday After School Kreators), for kids age kindergarten thru sixth grade. Each week there is a different activity that the children can enjoy. Task started in the fall of 2018.
TASK starts at 4:00 and ends at 5:00 p.m. every Tuesday, drawing anywhere from 7-26 kids and runs from October-March. Kids don’t have to be pre-registered, they just need to show up.
Some of the different things that they do are building with Legos, playing board games, and painting and building creativity and imagination.
The library also has the 1000 books before kindergarten program that you can sign-up for. It sounds like a lot of books, but doesn’t even add up to more than a book a day.
This program is to get the young children to hear billions of words before they ever start school, to help with learning and reading.
This program has been going for over ten years and so far there have been 48 children who completed the 1000 books.
Parents sign up at the library, then report on the books they have read. For every 100 books, the kids get a reward.
Another program offered at the library is story hour, which takes place at 9:00 a.m. on Friday mornings for children 3-6 years old. This program lasts throughout the school year.
All kids are encouraged to join any or all of the programs because learning should be fun.
All you need to get a library card is a photo ID, current proof of address and a reliable contact person and you will be ready to check out today.
