Chase County Museum to open with annual quilt show

On May 12, the Crazy Quilt Guild is sponsoring the annual quilt show at the Chase County Museum from 1 to 4 p.m.
The quilts will also be on display at the museum on the following Sunday, May 19.
Each year, the Crazy Quilt Guild features a member’s quilting expertise.
This year, Sharon Clark of Imperial has been chosen as the featured quilter.
Clark will be displaying around 10 quilts and 10 wall hangings at the show both Sundays.
She began quilting in 1993 after her youngest child left for college.
“I took my first classes from Bea Bauerle. I don’t even know how many projects I have made by now—but at least 40 quilts and 30 plus wall hangings, I would guess,” said Clark.
The starting point of her artisanship was the creation of a baby quilt for her first grandchild, she said.
“That set the stage for every grandchild to get a baby quilt from grandma, and I have nine grandchildren,” Clark said.
From there, she began making youth bed-size quilts for each grandchild as they outgrew their crib, she added.
Clark also makes wedding quilts for her nieces and nephews.
Clark doesn’t sell her work. She prefers to give her projects away to family and friends or keep them for herself.
She has decorated her office in a western theme at McNair Agency where she is the office manager and a crop insurance agent.
“I like western decor and horses and so does my daughter,” she said. “I have a number of patterns leaning toward this theme.”
