Chase County Hospital welcomes New Year’s baby

Gabriela Murillo of Imperial checked into Chase County Hospital at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20. Mila Rose Murillo made her appearance at 6:09 p.m. that same day as the first baby born in 2018.
She was delivered by Dr. David Younger. She weighed 5 lbs. 12 oz. and was 18 1/2 inches long.
She is the first child born to Murillo.
Grandparents and great-grandparents are Greg and Maria Murillo and Gregorio and Soccoro Murillo, all of Imperial.
Grandmother Maria Murillo said Gabriela had chosen the middle name but couldn’t decide on a first name.
“We took name suggestions from family and friends and put them into a bucket. The first name we drew out was Mila suggested by Heather Schoenholz,” she said.
Baby Mila was born at the onset of the biggest snow storm so far this year. The family was glad they were already at the hospital.
“I feel good. I’m pretty sore but very, very happy she’s here and grateful that she is healthy,” Gabriela said.
Seventeen businesses have donated gifts to the hospital’s first baby of 2018. See page A4 for a list of those gifts.
