Chase County Cancer Walk held last Saturday

    Saturday, Sept. 27, a large group of people gathered at the CCS track for the annual Chase County Community Hospital’s cancer walk. All the money raised stays local, to be used for cancer patients expenses that can sometimes be overwhelming.
    About 80 people gathered at the track. Before the walk, people could draw on a white paper bag with art, the names of loved ones or an inspirational thought.
    Sand and a battery operated candle were added to make a line of luminaries, lining the inside of the track that glowed as the sun went down.
    Former CCS teacher and coach, Gary Patch, who is also a cancer survivor, addressed the crowd in the bleachers, giving them a pep talk before the walk. Patch commended the Team at Chase County Comm. Hospital, for their compassion, caring, knowledge and support that he received while undergoing treatment.
    Just before Patch addressed the crowd, the hospital provided a rose for all the cancer survivors that were in the crowd.
    As soon as Mr. Patch was done speaking to the crowd, everyone was invited onto the track to walk laps for the people they love.
    After the walk, people could go to the cossessions stand for a free subway sandwich, chips, cookie and a drink. The younger walkers were also given some glow bracelets to wear.
    People could also purchase tickets for the 50/50 drawing that was held. The winner of the drawing was Curtis Johnson of Imperial.
