Chase County’s early voting signup continues to grow

    Chase County voters continue to express interest in early voting for the May 12 Primary.
    In the past two weeks, another 235 voters requested early ballots from the Chase County Clerk’s Office.
    That’s a total of 915 requests, or just over 37% of registered Chase County voters, said Wendy Moe of the clerk’s office.
    Chase County has 2,447 registered voters.
    County Clerk/Election Commissioner Debbie Clark said that’s a big jump from a normal Primary Election.
    Voters can still request early voting ballots but the deadline to make that request is this Friday.
    In an earlier interview, Clark said they believe concerns with COVID-19 are the major factor in the big jump in early voting ballot requests.
    However, she said the state plans to have polls open on election day May 12. Chase County has five polling places that will be open, she said.
    People don’t have to go the polls; they can vote at home and return them (if they asked for early ballots) by election night.
    Clark encouraged use of the drop box at the back (west) entrance to the courthouse for ballot return or for other courthouse business.
    “It can be used for mail for any office,” Clark noted.  
    “We just ask that they put their information in an envelope indicating the office it needs to be delivered to. I have been emptying the box when I get here in the morning and again after I return from lunch,” she said.
