Changes to arts council events well received
Instead of a paint-in this year, the Chase County Area Arts Council hosted a paint “out” at Smokin’ on Broadway last weekend.
Packets were available to pick up from the city offices in advance. The packets for the paint-out contained a canvas, paints, two brushes and this year’s theme, as well as instructions.
Twenty-three entries were received for the paint-out, which had a theme of “Summer Dreams.”
Instead of having a judging panel, all entries were displayed at the arts council booth, where the pieces were judged by the public.
For the student division, Caroline Stratesky won, receiving $100. Second place was
LaReina Colton, who received $50.
In the adult division, Becky Berry took first, receiving $100. Sarah Vrbas came in second, receiving $50.
All the prizes were in the form of Chamber Bucks.
The arts council also added another new events this year, a Thirsty Painter session. About 15 painters brought their beverages to the outdoor art class.
The group sat at tables under a tent and followed instructions from arts council president Sara Stretesky.
The artwork the group painted was an upright guitar posed in front of a waving American flag.
“It was the first and therefore the best thirsty painter I’ve ever had outdoors,” Stratesky smiled.
“Everyone did an excellent job and had a wonderful time.”
