CCS starts Nebraska-based streaming service for sports

Chase County Schools (CCS) fans have been able to livestream games for awhile, but a new partnership allows a higher-quality streaming as well as student announcers.

CCS has streamed games in the past, but students are now announcing the games, including details like what players are on the court and how many fouls they have.

High School Principal Jon Lechtenberg said the program with strivTV costs $1,950 per year, but CCS was able to negotiate a free trial period for the spring semester. They will start a full subscription in the fall.

There are other costs in addition to the strivTV subscription, he added.

Video equipment is expensive, but the school was able to capitalize on some existing equipment such as a camera, tripod and computer.

“We did spend $732.83 on equipment needed to get the camera footage to feed live and to provide audio with the video,” Lechtenberg said.

CCS owned cameras and other equipment from when teacher Jason Speck taught a media production class.

After new administration, that class was canceled.

CCS teacher Renae Bottom is currently teaching a media literacy class for high school students.

Bottom started using the equipment this semester for video projects.

Bottom asked Speck what happened to the good camera that was purchased for his class.

“It’s just taking up space,” Speck replied.

The pair decided they needed to start broadcasting games again.

“We went to talk to Jon (Lechtenberg) and he had been wanting to get strivTV going,” Bottom said.

Lechtenberg became the contact between CCS and strivTV.

“He’s the one who got the interface and helped us know what equipment we needed,” Bottom added.

Speck came in as the “hardware guy.”
