Cancer run/walk draws people from wide area

After a dreary and very windy morning and early afternoon, the sun came out and the wind died down in time for the annual cancer run/walk fundraiser sponsored by Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) Saturday in Imperial.
Deb Hrcka, Chase County Hospital Foundation assistant executive director, said they grossed over $7,200 that will go toward the support of those affected by cancer and their families.
The 5K race drew 98 total participants—83 walkers and 15 runners.
People attended from Grant, Palisade, Wauneta, Ogallala, Enders, Champion, Imperial and Holyoke, Colorado, said Hrcka.
“Even more joined us for grilled hot dogs, S’mores and games afterwards,” she said.
Hrcka explained that the 5K race didn’t give out prizes, but listed the first three places and their times.
The first three places for adult runners were Janae Gertsch (29:59), Brian Gertsch (33:34) and Bri Griffin (39:49).
All three are from Grant, and Griffin works at CCCH.
The first three places for youth runners were Trevin Moreno (28:36), Brextin Moreno (37:12) and Jackson Cyboron (37:13), all from Imperial.
After the race, attendees enjoyed a meal of chips, hot dogs, S’mores and drinks.
Raffle tickets were drawn for winners of a variety of prizes.
