Hospital CEO Abby Cyboron helped the caterers serve the Cajun Boil meal at Friday’s gala. Here, John and Kara Engbrecht are about ready to dig into the meal.

Cajun food, ‘Fabulous Feud’ promote fun, dollars at hospital gala

Not all the profits have been determined, but by all accounts, Friday’s hospital foundation gala was a big success.
Deb Hrcka, assistant executive director of the Chase County Hospital Foundation, said the change-up to a more casual evening with a different menu was well-received.
The evening’s entertainment, “Fabulous Feud,” was patterned after the popular TV game show and drew a lot of laughs as six teams competed to give the most popular answers.
“People loved it. A lot of people had never tried some of that food before,” she said.
The game show participants, who signed up ahead of time or were “pranked” into playing, not only drew a lot of laughs, but also a lot of donations to the foundation’s efforts to raise funds for new digital x-ray equipment, she said.
As supporters of the hospital foundation were seated, before them on the tables were plastic bibs.
Using the bibs was highly encouraged as loads of Cajun food were dumped directly in front of them on the tables covered with plastic.
The Cajun Boil prepared by J L Cajun of the Wray, Colorado area included crab legs, shrimp, mussels, clams, crawfish, sausage, sweet corn and potatoes.
Guests helped themselves right off the table with rolls of paper towel nearby.
Hrcka said all 158 tickets available for Friday’s event were sold. While not all were able to attend, she estimated about 140 were on hand at the fairgrounds’ new expo building.
