Browning joins Sheriff’s Office as deputy

It’s like being back in the saddle again. That’s how Robbie Browning described his return to law enforcement.
After a 4.5 year hiatus, Browing has resumed his career as a sheriff’s deputy for Chase County.
Browning’s first day on the job was Sept. 10.
He said he’s missed law enforcement and is glad to be “back in the saddle.”
He said he’s gotten a lot of positive response from the public when they see him back in uniform.
Browning, an Imperial native, served in the Marine Corps where he was a security guard stationed in Puerto Rico from 1992-94.
In 1997, he returned to Imperial to join the Imperial Police Department where his dad, Larry, served as chief.
He was later promoted to sergeant and succeeded his father as chief in 2012. After two years at the position, he left law enforcement.
For the past four and a half years, he has served as the assistant manager at Hill’s Family Foods in Imperial.
He said Sheriff Kevin Mueller contacted him about joining his office.
Mueller said he always enjoyed working with Browning when he was at the city and is looking forward to having him on his staff.
The original opening in the Sheriff’s Office occurred after Deputy Mike Dukes moved back to Lexington in January.
Dispatcher Mason Holmes of Imperial was hired as a deputy but medical issues forced him to resign from the position.
Holmes has resumed dispatcher duties on a part-time basis and was just named Western Region EMS Specialist by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Dukes had been stationed in Wauneta as part of an agreement with the Village of Wauneta. However, the latest contract does not require a deputy to reside in Wauneta.
