Blood donation is family affair

The Red Cross Bloodmobile held a blood drive at the city gym in Imperial last Thursday.
Falling short of the 90 unit goal, there were 70 units collected with 68 donors—60 whole blood and eight double reds.
Liz Mollendor, Imperial Community Blood Drive coordinator, said they had two parent/child donor teams this time.
Harmaleigh Dubas and daughter, Hanna, both gave blood together.
It had been Hanna’s heart’s desire for quite some time to start giving blood as soon as she turned 16.
She is now 17, and a regular blood donor. Her new goal is to donate one gallon of blood by the time she graduates from high school.
Dubas didn’t stop there in her mission to help people in need. She brought along a friend, Katelyn Leibhart, to give blood, as well.
Katelyn’s dad, Dan, came with her, and they also gave blood together as a team.
Mollendor said family members donating together is uncommon. She was very proud and excited about these family donors.
The next Imperial date for Red Cross blood donations is Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the CCS auxiliary  gym.
New blood drive
coordinator sought
Mollendor announced that she is stepping down as the Imperial Community Blood Drive coordinator as of last Thursday.
“They are looking for a new coordinator. If anyone is interested, they can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or call me at 970-520-2999 for information,” Mollendor said.
