Big ticket items lining up for Gittlein benefit

    Saturday night is going to be much more than a benefit dinner for the Jeremy and Amy Gittlein family, whose son and brother, Regan, returned home last week after nearly two months in the hospital.
    The evening kicks off with a 6 p.m. meal to include pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, baked potatoes, vegetables, desserts and drinks. Free will offerings will be taken.    
    The planning committee is preparing to serve 500 people, said Joey Large of Wauneta, one of the committee members working on Saturday’s events at the new expo building on the fairgrounds.
    But people will have the opportunity to donate even more at silent and live auctions also scheduled Saturday night.
    When people arrive for the meal, tables of silent auction items will be ready for bid-taking, with the live auction to start at 7 p.m.
    Some of the bigger ticket items will be sold by a group of area auctioneers during the live auction headed up by Doug Dean of rural Wauneta, Large noted.
    While committee members are expecting more auction items to be donated this week, Large listed a few of the ones already donated for the silent and live auctions:
    A seven-month old replacement quality heifer for a 4-H program.
    Live hog and processing.
    A group of Elsie area farmers are donating harvest and trucking equipment to pick one irrigated quarter of corn.
    Numerous animal and farm-related items including show supplies, seed, A.I. services and more.
    Pampered Chef items.
    Lap quilt and afghan.
    Table size corn hole game.
    Home decor items.
    Fitness classes.
    Denver Bronco tickets.
    Numerous gift certificates.
    Service work such as tire repair.
    Food items, including a dozen rolls each month for a year, homemade caramels, jellies and more.
    All of the food for the meal, its preparation and the auction items have been donated, Large said, so all of the proceeds can go to the Gittlein family for help with expenses related to Regan’s accident.
    He said they have volunteer help from several organizations and individuals. The participation continues to grow, he said.
