Annual Tractor Relay Across Nebraska to stop in Wauneta

A tractor isn’t exactly a rare sight in this area, but come June, you may see more at one time than you’ve seen in a while.
The ninth annual Tractor Relay Across Nebraska will make a stop in Wauneta  during this year’s event June 6-13.
Of course, it’s subject to developments with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re still planning on it,” said Donelle Moormeier, the event’s coordinator. “We’re just going to kind of see. We’ve extended our registration.”
Registration originally was due May 1, but has been extended to May 8.
“We’re still kind of sitting on the fence,” Moormeier said. “If they’re starting to loosen things up by the first part of May, then by the first part of June it should be OK to do the drive.”
The relay will start in Lamar and make overnight stops in Wauneta, Wallace, North Platte, Arnold, Brewster, Ainsworth, Springview and Valentine.
Sponsored by the Nebraska Antique Farming Association, the event raises funds for the American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors. Moormeier said that program provides veterans with items they cannot get from the government, from toothbrushes for individuals to rehab equipment for facilities.
Fundraising is done in conjunction with local Legion posts through a meal where free-will donations are taken, Moormeier said. In the last six years, the tractor relay has raised over $40,000 for the program, she said.
