4-H activities heating up as fair approaches

The week of the Chase County Fair may look different this year for 4-H members, but the activities leading up to the fair are still familiar.
Among the many summer activities was the Nebraska 4-H Premier Communications Event. Chase County’s Jackson Sauder made finals in Radio PSA and placed fifth out of 35 Intermediate entries from across the state.
Perkins-Chase Clothing Day was held July 9 at the Perkins County Extension Office. Chase County had 52 entries for the contest and will hold a public Fashion Show in the coming weeks.
Also this week, after weeks of preparing their rockets, Challengers club members had their Rocket Launch the morning of Aug. 10. Results will be tabulated and rockets will be displayed at the fair.
New 4-H, Open Class schedule
Fairgoers will notice changes at this year’s Chase County Fair 4-H, FFA and Open Class exhibit schedule.
4-H activities will begin Monday, Aug. 4 with the Dog Show at 8:30 a.m., followed by the Poultry, Rabbit and Companion Animal Shows.
Livestock barn cleanup and static building setup will be the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 6. Shirts, back tags and entry tags will be available for pickup that evening.
As with last year, the Horse Show will be divided into two parts, starting with the in-hand events Thursday, Aug. 7 at 4 p.m. Riding events will be judged Saturday, Aug. 9 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Everything will kick into high gear Monday, Aug. 11.
In a change from the past, exhibit check in will be held on Monday. 4-H, FFA and Open Class static exhibits will be entered from 8-11 a.m. that morning and 4-H and FFA judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. Open Class judging will start at 12:30 p.m.
4-H and FFA livestock will also complete their weigh in and stalling on Monday. Swine, Sheep and Goats must be in place by 8 a.m. for weigh in and ultrasound. Market beef must be in place by 11 a.m. prior to weigh in and ultrasound.
All livestock shows will also move up a day.
Tuesday, Aug. 12 will see the Swine Show begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the Sheep and Goat Shows.
Wednesday, Aug. 13 will be the Beef Show beginning at 8:30 a.m.
The 4-H and FFA Round Robin contest will be held Thursday, Aug. 14 at 9 a.m.
This year’s Livestock Auction will be Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
Important to note, all livestock will be released Friday morning at 7 a.m.
Friday’s schedule also includes the 4-H Rocket Launch at 8 a.m. following barn cleanup.
Open Class, 4-H and FFA exhibits will be released at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 with Exhibit Hall clean up happening at 10 a.m.
From Tuesday to Saturday of fair week the Exhibit Building will be open from 12: 30 to 7:30 p.m.
