‘Commodity carnival’ coming to fair

    The “Commodity Carnival” experience is coming to more than 120 state and county fairs across the Midwest this fair season, and one of them is the Chase County Fair.
     The highly engaging experience  is designed to help young players learn the basics of risk management in agriculture. The mobile companion app, Risk Ranch, is available across multiple platforms for those unable to participate in person at one of the participating fairs.
    Commodity Carnival is an interactive learning activity that guides participants through the process of raising a steer and selling it at market.
    The game aims to build greater agricultural literacy and awareness of the risks farmers face in bringing food to market.
    Chase County Extension Educator Debbie Kuenning said the “carnival” will be at the fair Thursday and Friday, Aug. 15-16 and will be set up in the 4-H exhibit building.
    The Commodity Carnival is being brought to the fair through a partnership between 4-H and its Cooperative Extension System and National 4-H Council along with the CME Group.
