WP Broncos open track season at Hitchcock Co.

Track meet season officially began Wednesday for Wauneta-Palisade. The Broncos traveled to Hitchcock County for their first meet of the season.
WP has 14 girls and nine boys out, with 14 of the 23 being letterwinners.
Head Coach Dawn Doetker said her teams’ first week of practice has been great and the teams have taken advantage of the nice weather.
Not having a season in 2020 has made it difficult, but everyone is working hard, Doetker said, adding that everyone is in the same boat.
“Right now we are just focusing on getting to know the younger athletes to see what events will work well for them to contribute to the team,” Doetker said.
The team has battled a stomach bug and sore muscles early on, but coaches were hopeful both were gone by Wednesday’s opener at Hitchcock County.
“We are taking it day by day. Our end goal is to get as many individuals and relays to state as possible,” Doetker said.
Doetker is joined on the coaching staff by Randy Geier and Stacy Applegarth for high jump and hurdles, RanDee Littrell for throwing and Joseph Frecks.
