Weather continues to mess with CCS golf team meets

Another week, another change to the Chase County golf team schedule.
Sutherland postponed its golf meet last week from Tuesday to Friday due to weather. Not being able to go to the meet Friday, CCS picked up the Ogallala Invite instead.
“It’s been a little difficult to switch courses and dates so much, but since we don’t practice on the course before we play it, it hasn’t been too bad,” Longhorns Coach Marissa McDaniel said.
Switching from Sutherland to Ogallala was a big change in level of difficulty though, McDaniel said.
Crandell Creek Golf Course, where Ogallala held its meet, features 18 holes, but McDaniel said the front and back nines are very different..
“It almost feels like two courses. The front is open and doesn’t have a lot of hazards. The fairways on the back 9 are bordered by tall grass and much more difficult,” McDaniel said.
The competition level was different too, with CCS and Hershey the only non-Class B schools among the 13 varsity and JV teams in attendance.
McDaniel said CCS hadn’t seen most of the schools before Thursday.
“We did ok for the day but definitely struggled with the back nine. Overall, the team kept their heads up and kept pushing through,” McDaniel added.
The district meet was held Monday at Bridgeport.
With a tournament under their belts on the course, McDaniel was hopeful her team would play well.
“Golf is a very mental game and the pressure of playing districts can definitely have an impact. We know Bridgeport can be a tricky course so I’m hoping for a good day,” she said before the meet.
Mitchell took the district team title. Full results will be available in next week’s Republican.
