Six CCS golfers hitting the links

Without a meet until April 6, the spring practice season may be feeling a little long to the Chase County golf team.
But with only one returning letterwinner, the extra practices have been a blessing.
First year Head Coach Marissa McDaniel has one senior, Courtney Odens, and one letterwinner, junior Nickolas Rau on the team.
Joining the pair are juniors Markenna Terryberry, Brice Vitosh  and Cayden White, plus sophomore Annika McDaniel.
McDaniel said practices have been going well and she’s feeling lucky to live in a community where people are willing to help out.
McDaniel is thankful for Imperial Country Club and Enders Golf Course for allowing CCS to use their facilities.
“It helps that we have two very different courses to practice on and the use of the driving range has definitely made a change,” she said.
“Like with most sports, repetition is important so the students being able to spend a practice working on their technique and then repeating the same swing over and over has helped a ton,” McDaniel added.
CCS kicks its season off next week in Benkelman.
McDaniel said her team is looking forward to it.
“I have a lot of confidence in the team and I’m excited to see them compete,” she said.
The Longhorns’ schedule has changed from what was previously released.
One thing that stays the same is the Chase County Invite April 17 at Enders Lake Golf Course.
CCS will make three trips to Bridgeport this season, one for the Bulldogs’ Invite, then for SPVA and districts.
CCS will also travel to Grant, North Platte and Sutherland. The state meet will once again be held in Kearney.
“I think the new schedule is going to be a good fit for us,” McDaniel said.
The original schedule was a better fit for a larger, more experienced team, she continued.
“This one will keep the students from missing too much school and will provide us with the best opportunity to be competitive at meets,” McDaniel added.
With so many athletes new to competitive golfing, McDaniel said her goal is to see the team improve overall.
“I think it is important to focus on the growth this year. Hopefully some wins come with that growth, but mostly I’m just excited to see what we’re capable of,” McDaniel said.
