Season quickly coming to a close for junior softball

With only three nights of softball on the schedule, the end of the season is only a week away for the Imperial junior softball team.
Games were supposed to begin June 3 in Imperial, followed by June 10 in Grant and June 18 in Wallace.
Looking ahead at the schedule, coaches decided to move the June 18 Wallace games to May 25 because too many players would be gone on the 18th.
Imperial opened the evening in Wallace with a 1-12 loss to the hosts.
In the first inning, Peyton Owens took advantage of a Wallace error and passed ball to open scoring in the game.
Wallace responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Imperial stranded runners on third in each inning, including a triple by Owens in the third inning.
Wallace scored five runs in the second and three in the third to take the win.
Imperial rebounded with a six-run first inning against Grant in its next game.
After a lead-off walk by Hayley Rusher, Jasmine Johnson singled and Owens doubled. All three scored.
With an Anna Aragon single,  Navy Havel walked and Kadence Wallin being hit by a pitch, Imperial kept runners on the base paths. Aragon and Havel scored on passed balls and Wallin came around to score as well.
Grant responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, which Imperial matched thanks to a home run by Owens.
Grant took advantage of Imperial pitching struggles to score four runs in the second inning.
For the second time in the game, Wallin was hit by a pitch and came around to score in the third inning.
Holding on to a 9-6 lead, Imperial gave up four runs in the bottom of the third and lost by one run.
Imperial hosted Wallace and Grant June 3.
Wallace started off the game scoring two runs and loading the bases. Imperial shut down the threat and scored three runs of its own.
Those would be Imperial’s only runs of the game, but pitching struggles by the home team made home plate a busy place. Imperial lost the game 3-25.
Imperial started off its second game of the evening well. After giving up two runs to start its game against Grant, Imperial took advantage of a single and six walks to score four runs.
Grant scored one run to lead off the second inning, before Imperial headed to the plate.
Two singles and two walks brought in four runs for Imperial.
Hanging on to an 8-4 lead, Imperial saw its lead dwindle with four runs by Grant to start the third inning.
Imperial gained one run back in the bottom of the inning, then sat Grant down in order in the top of the fourth before adding three insurance runs to end the game.
The season will end Thursday in Grant.
