Husker players hosting camp in Benkelman Friday, Saturday

Dundy County Stratton Youth Activities is sponsoring “The Camp” this weekend in Benkelman for young football players.
Benkelman native and current Husker Phalen Sanford will be bringing teammates Elliott Brown, Trevin Luben, Lane McCallum and Nate Broekircher to help with the July 23-24 camp at Tiger Stadium in Benkelman.
Each day will have one 2 p.m. to 5 p.m session costing $40 each. Youths in grades 2-8 may attend one or both sessions.
The entry fee covers a shirt, awards and autographs.

The players will be at the Dundy County Fair parade Saturday morning.
Sanford won six Class C state titles in track and set the Class C 300-meter hurdle record in 2018.
Sanford started out his college career running track and playing football at Hastings College before transferring and walking on at Nebraska in 2019.
The sophomore turned heads this spring as performance results were released by the Huskers. Sanford was fastest on the team in the 10-yard split, led the team in hang clean index points, was fourth in pro agility, fifth in squat index points and tied for fifth in vertical jump.
