Enders SRA 5K race raises money for cancer research

Saturday morning’s 5K at the Enders State Recreation Area’s 100th anniversary celebration had extra meaning to it.
Eighteen runners took part and raised $400 for brain cancer research in honor of Stephanie Williams.
Williams, who used to live in Wauneta and worked in Imperial but now lives in Cedaredge, Colorado, is undergoing treatments for a brain tumor. Once thought to be in remission, the tumor returned in October 2019.
SRA employee Dayna Scherbarth and her sister, Candace Cayer, had wanted to do a run in Williams’ honor.
“We thought doing the run during the Enders 100–year event was perfect,” Scherbarth said.
“It’s been hard watching her go through this again so we wanted to raise money to help brain cancer research to help her and other families that are going through the same thing,” she added.
Miranda Spady finished with the top overall time. Spady competed in the 9-15 years age group.
Other winners included Lindsey Mendenhall, 15-30 years; Davina Sanford, 30-45 years; and Missy Potts, 45 years and over.
