Chase County softball adds win before post season

The Chase County softball team earned its fifth win of the season last week.
The final week of the regular season saw four nights of doubleheaders for the Longhorns.
Younger players got on the field Sept. 27 for a doubleheader with McCook JV.
CCS lost the first game 5-18. Patience at the plate in the third inning led to all five runs.
Denise Guillen doubled in the game.
Jesusita Ruiz pitched, walking eight and striking out one.
Chase County lost the second game 0-18.
Athziry Valenzuela and Alejandra Castillo singled for CCS.
Ruiz allowed four walks with no strike outs in the game.
The next night CCS made its first trip of the week east to face Southern Valley/Alma and Kearney Catholic in Alma.
CCS lost to the home squad 1-9 in the triangular’s first game.
Ruiz led off the game with a triple and scored for the Longhorns only run.
CCS let a bases loaded opportunity get away from them in the third inning.
Jaiden Hill walked two and struck out two in the game.
Chase County lost to Kearney Catholic 0-12.
Markenna Terryberry had the Longhorns’ only hit in the game, a first inning single.
Hill walked three batters and struck out three.
The Longhorns split games at Stamford to Southern Valley/Alma Thursday.
CCS jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game. Ruiz, Terryberry and Ella O’Neil led off the inning and scored. Valenzuela singled to help bring home runs.
After giving up four runs in the bottom of the first inning, CCS tied the game when Hailey Markee walked and scored, but CCS left the bases loaded.
The game remained tied through two innings, but eight runs by Southern Valley/Alma in the fourth and fifth innings  gave CCS a 4-12 loss.
Hill gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out one.
The Longhorns scored plenty of runs in the second game, a 28-18 win in six innings.
CCS put runs on the board in each inning. Terryberry singled and Hill doubled in the first inning. Markee singled in the sixth inning to give CCS three hits in the game.
O’Neil scored seven times for the Longhorns. Ruiz, Terryberry and Kayla Chavira each scored four times.
The Longhorns had 28 walks and were hit by pitches 12 times.
Hill struck out six for CCS while walking five.
CCS hosted Alliance and Chadron Saturday.
The Longhorns lost to Alliance 0-10.
After giving up two runs in the first and second innings, CCS held the Bulldogs scoreless in the third inning. Due in part to three errors by CCS, six runs by Alliance in the fourth inning ended the game.
Hill allowed 11 hits. The junior had four strikeouts and no walks.
    The Longhorns hung with Chadron.
After a single by Ruiz and O’Neil scored Ruiz, the game was tied at one heading into the second inning.
Chadron scored two runs in the top of the second inning. CCS snagged the lead with runs by Valenzuela, Jasmine Johnson and Markee. An error and two walks put the three runners on base. Ruiz doubled and O’Neil singled in the inning.
Chadron pulled ahead with two runs in the third inning and held the Longhorns scoreless.
After both teams were scoreless in the fourth inning, the Cardinals ensured a 7-4 win with two runs in the fifth.
Hill pitched the complete game, striking out four and walking one while giving up eight hits.
Chase County’s season came to an end Monday in Cozad when the Longhorns dropped its sub-district game to Gothenburg. Coverage of the story will be available in next week’s Republican.
